A Gold Star Mother who lost her Marine son to suicide is now bringing evidence-based suicide intervention training directly onto military bases across the country. The annual Defender Ruck raises funds to provide ASIST workshops to active-duty service members at no cost to the military
Dear Media Partner,

The Sgt. Anthony Patrick Muhlstadt Foundation invites you to attend and cover the 4th Annual Sgt. Anthony Muhlstadt Defender Ruck on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 7700 16th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL.

Founded by Gold Star Mother Tanya Mort in honor of her son, Sgt. Anthony Muhlstadt, the event raises funds to provide ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) workshops on military bases across the country. ASIST is a nationally recognized, evidence-based suicide intervention program that equips service members with the skills to recognize and help those in crisis.

Participation has grown each year, bringing together active-duty military, veterans, first responders, and community members in support of military mental health and suicide intervention. Local Marines and Soldiers will help lead the event, and numerous veteran and military support organizations will be on site providing resources and information.
