In honor of Black History Month, LocalShops1, Tampa Bay’s source for all things local, is highlighting member Barbara’s Kitchen Jams and part owner Sharon Young. The trained chef started making jams in 2010 and named the business after her mom Barbara. She has a storefront with her husband Dwight located at 12508 Starkey Road in Largo. In addition to the Largo store, you can find the jams and additional products at events such as Shopapalooza and local stores including ones at the Tampa Bay International Airport. All products are handmade using fresh ingredients from local farmers.

Barbara’s Kitchen Jams offers a selection of over 30 flavors. They are constantly adding and changing new flavors based on customer feedback. Jam flavors include Apricot, “Oink “ Bacon Habanero, Banana Nut Bread, Black Raspberry, Blueberry, Carrot Cake, US1 Traffic Jam plus many more. Some of the jams are natural, with no sugar and no artificial sweetener added. They are also great for people who are diabetic or looking to cut back on sugar.

“I am most proud of the quality of our jams, service and growth. Being at local events including Shopapalooza is a great platform for us. We get to showcase our products, and it brings people to our store, “said Barbara’s Kitchen Jams and owner Sharon Young.

They also host classes including jam sessions that teach jam making and history. They offer tea parties that teach health aspects and the history of the tea, and they serve scones that go along with the jams and charcuterie boards. They also have two other brands that they own at their store; The Dreaded Fisherman products including Aged Balsamic, organic seasonings, Pure Syrup and Fermented Honey that are good for you and Brie and Tiffany Organic Herbal Teas (named after her nieces).

“We wanted to bring awareness and celebrate Sharon Young and Barbara’s Kitchen Jams offerings during Black History Month,” said Ester Venouziou, LocalShops1 founder. Barbara’s Kitchen Jams has been a member of LocalShops1 and a Shopapalooza vendor for several years.
