ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Morean Arts Center and SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival partner to present the official SHINE Exhibition, featuring 11 of the 20 participating street mural artists in the 2021 Festival lineup.

Since 2012, the Morean Arts Center has given street artists a platform to showcase their talent each year, featuring art that blurs the line between the street and the gallery, and whose practice incorporates elements of graffiti art, illustration, and graphic design.
Amanda Cooper, Curator of Exhibitions at the Morean Arts Center re-imagines the gallery space into a street-worthy and edgy atmosphere each Fall. Open and free to the public, the official SHINE Exhibition at the Morean Arts Center is an extension of the outdoor mural scene throughout St. Petersburg. “I love it when people come to the gallery after seeing an artist’s mural, and you see the light-bulb go off: “Hey, I saw this artist’s work on the wall at the Brewery!”–some people think mural work is all an artist does, but most of them have an active studio practice. We want our visitors to experience the full range of what these artists have to offer, and if they are so inclined, purchase a piece and “own” a part of SHINE” stated Cooper.

Featured SHINE Mural artists in this year’s exhibition include AURAILIEUS, Jenipher Chandley, Bakpak Durden, Reid Jenkins, Michael Fatutoa, Greg Mike, Miss Crit, Mwanel Pierre-Louis, Nicole Salgar, Ricky Watts and Jared Wright.
In its 7th year, SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival, presented by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, has returned with a fresh lineup featuring some of the world’s best mural artists creating 16 new murals located throughout the arts districts, plus a series of Bright Spots—community murals to engage and inspire.

Reid Jenkins, an alum of the Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School and 2021 Mural Festival participant, will be featured in a solo show at the Morean Arts Center titled Kinfolk on view starting September 25. Jenkins’ work features dynamic paintings of his family and friends in everyday settings. Local to St. Petersburg, these images are people that live and work in the local community. Jenkins holds a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. He has displayed his work in numerous group exhibitions across the state and was recently awarded the Creative Pinellas Emerging Artist Grant.

The official SHINE Mural Festival Exhibition’s purpose is to educate the community, broaden their perception of street art and not only recognize the range of stylings, but make the connection between murals on a wall and the artist’s work in a studio or gallery. These artists do much more than just street art and the Morean Arts Center is proud to showcase them on a different platform.

The SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival Exhibition and Reid Jenkins: Kinfolk will be on view at the Morean Arts Center September 25 – October 27, 2021. Opening reception with food, drink and entertainment will be held October 15, 5-8 p.m.

The Morean Arts Center is free and open to the public Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
