St. Petersburg School Honors Head of School’s 17 Year Tenure

St. Petersburg, FL — Canterbury School of Florida recently honored Head of School Mac Hall and his family with the dedication of its baseball field on the Knowlton Campus. The field is named after Hall’s father, Frank Hall, a long-time supporter of the school, and is a special dedication to recognize the younger Hall’s 17 year legacy and his commitment to the Canterbury community.

The dedication was inspired by Hall’s first assignment upon joining the school in 2005 as Head of School, in which he was tasked to complete the construction of the school’s athletic fields within his first year on campus.

“The field dedication was such a wonderful event,” said Hall. “The Canterbury community has been so good to me and my family. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 17 years as Head of School and I look forward to watching Canterbury continue to grow and thrive.”

Hall was responsible for establishing a variety of school traditions including the Senior Investiture, where the senior students set their intentions of leadership for the school year, celebrate college plans, and connect with their peers.

Hall has also been instrumental in acquiring funding for the school, pledging his personal generosity along the way. At the start of each school year, Hall personally contributes to the school’s Annual Fund, Canterbury’s largest fundraiser created to support students, extracurriculars, and school-wide programs.

With his retirement from Canterbury nearing, Hall has now created the Hall Family Professional Development Endowment Fund to raise funds to provide the Canterbury faculty and staff the opportunity to invest in their professional development—a gift that benefits its faculty, and ultimately Canterbury’s students.

“I am so happy we were able to create this fund to provide more professional development opportunities for our faculty and staff,” said Hall. “They do so much for our students and are truly an amazing group of people.”

Canterbury will welcome Hollis Amley, the ninth Head of School, on July 1, 2022. Amley, a native of St. Petersburg, comes to Canterbury from the St. John’s School in Houston, TX, widely regarded as a top 20 independent school in the United States.
