The Blue Urban Project Launches Inaugural “Up N’ Out” Underwater Cleanup
The Blue Urban Project is proud to announce Up N’ Out, its first official community event, in partnership with Letts Dive and the historic St. Petersburg Yacht Club (SPYC). Taking place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, this collaborative underwater cleanup aims to remove decades-old marine debris from the floor of the SPYC marina, some of which hasn’t seen the light of day in more than 25 years.
This event marks the beginning of a long-term community effort to restore the health of our urban waterways and foster civic engagement through hands-on environmental action. Certified divers, marine researchers, and local volunteers will work side-by-side to remove submerged debris, increase public awareness, and support a cleaner, more resilient coastline.
The St. Petersburg Yacht Club, known for its dedication to marine conservation and its ongoing support of local nonprofits, has generously partnered with the Blue Urban Project to make this event possible. Letts Dive, a local dive shop with a strong commitment to sustainability, will provide diver support and safety oversight for the event.
In addition to cleanup efforts, Up N’ Out will also serve as a vital research opportunity. The Blue Urban Project is documenting the types, sources, and potential impacts of debris collected during the event. Findings will be published on their website and shared with local policymakers and environmental researchers to inform future conservation and infrastructure decisions in the region.
