WestCare Gulfcoast offers free Camp Mariposa for children impacted by a family member’s substance misuse
If you have fond memories of going to camp when you were a child, you may understand the significance of offering a FREE camp for kids who are impacted by the substance use of a family member. Camp Mariposa® ST PETERSBURG is a year-round addiction prevention and mentoring program for children ages 9-12. Youth attend free weekend camps throughout the year. At camp, youth participate in fun, traditional camp activities, combined with education and support sessions to learn critical life skills and self-care. In recent camps, the kids enjoyed canoeing, were challenged with facilitated tree climbing, and got to laugh and play at a pool party.
Camp Mariposa® St. Petersburg offers additional social and recreational activities throughout the year. Outings, such as movies, sporting events and bowling provide youth and their families an opportunity to connect and have fun. These activities are also free to families in the program.
Camp Mariposa St. Petersburg is part of the national Camp Mariposa® network, a program of Eluna. Learn more at elunanetwork.org. The Pinellas County Camp Mariposa is managed by WestCare GulfCoast – Florida | Uplifting the Human Spirit
Camp Mariposa® Helps Youth:
• Connect with friends in similar situations.
• Reduce feelings of guilt and isolation.
• Learn that addiction is a disease and not their fault.
• Develop trusting relationships with adult mentors.
• Build confidence and learn critical life skills.
• Most importantly, have fun and just be “kids!”
Please spread the word to qualifying families. This camp is specifically designed for Pinellas County children impacted by a family member’s substance use disorder.
