What’s next for the EDGE district’s OpenHouse space?
Walking into Intermezzo Coffee & Cocktails on a sunny Thursday morning, an under-caffeinated Catalyst reporter miraculously noticed a bright white sign in the window of the neighboring storefront, at 1113 Central Ave.
Since early 2018, that space has been home to the pop-up restaurant and event space known as OpenHouse St. Pete. It has housed pop-up St. Pete Pride events, World Cup soccer watch parties, and private events of every flavor.
Now, as the sign reads, it will become the home of Baum Ave Market, starting in September.
The sign also lists the positions that are currently hiring – back of house (prep cooks, line cooks, dishwashers) and front of house (cashiers, baristas, bar backs, bartenders).
The space at 1113 Central, much like the rest of the EDGE district, has seen major changes over the last few years. Prior to OpenHouse St. Pete, Ricky P’s Orleans Bistro was there for 4 1/2 years, until rising rents and increased competition prompted the restaurant to move to 4th Street – and eventually close up shop permanently.
So what will this new concept mean for the EDGE district? So far, that’s to be determined.
OpenHouse St. Pete is keeping announcements under wraps. The hiring signs and the space’s new interior mural are our only clues to the new concept. Stay tuned to the Catalyst for updates.
