200+ food workers at Tampa International face layoffs

July 28, 2020 - SSP America said it expects to lay off 205 workers at Tampa International Airport beginning Sept. 23. The company said it did not anticipate how deeply and widely the Covid-19 would spread and impact its business. SSP operates a 7,700 square foot marketplace style eatery at TIA offering regional restaurant brands. The facilities will remain open at reduced staffing levels, SSP said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. Last week, another food operator, HBF Tampa Partners JV LLC, said the 107 workers it laid off earlier this year will remain off the job for a while longer. Separately, Paradies Lagardere, a retail concessionaire operator at Tampa International said in a WARN to the state that what it initially thought would be a temporary layoff for six months for 38 TIA workers now may last longer.
