African American flag raising ceremony to kick off Black History Month

January 31, 2022 - St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch, the first African American mayor in the city’s history, is raising the Woodson flag over City Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 1, to commemorate the start of Black History Month. The flag depicts Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who many recognize as the father of Black history. Joining Welch for the flag-raising is Terri Lipsey Scott, executive director of The Woodson African American Museum of Florida. The ceremony takes place at 12 p.m., at 175 5th St. N. in St. Petersburg.
