Officials report wastewater spills in St. Pete

August 28, 2025 - The City of St. Petersburg announced Tuesday that heavy rains caused sewage to overflow from manholes in three areas Aug. 23. Approximately 24,000 gallons of wastewater were discharged at the 5800 block of 1st Avenue North and flowed into Bear Creek Lake, 18,000 gallons overflowed at the 5800 block of 22nd Avenue North and 2,880 gallons spilled from the 3500 block of 66th Way North and into a neighboring canal. Crews subsequently cleaned and sanitized the sites.
