Crist announces bid to return to governor’s office
May 4, 2021 - U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, released a video Tuesday morning in which he declares his candidacy for governor of Florida in the 2022 election. Crist, who served as governor from 2007 to 2011, when he was a Republican, will detail his vision for the future of the state at an event scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the historic Deuces neighborhood in South St. Petersburg. “We can build a Florida for all Floridians,” Crist said in a statement excerpted from the speech he is expected to deliver at the event. “We can create a society that values every person. We can break the fever of division and hatred that has afflicted our politics.”
