Downtown high-rise projects win approval from city council

April 9, 2021 - The St. Petersburg City Council has cleared the way for two downtown high-rise projects. One of the projects is a 28-story mixed-use development with a hotel, residences and office space at 450 1st Ave. N.. The $85 million project is being developed by the DeNunzio Group. The other project is The Metro, a $9.5 million, seven-story, 100-unit studio apartment building at 1st Avenue and 11th Street North. Council members postponed approval on The Metro last month, asking the developer, DevMar, to talk to the EDGE Business District Association about its concerns. DevMar subsequently met with EDGE as well as Preserve The Burg and was able to address most of the issues those groups raised, a spokesman said. The City Council, meeting as the Community Redevelopment Agency, said both projects are consistent with plans for the downtown area and voted unanimously to approve them.
