Duke delivers 304,000-pound transformer to substation

November 20, 2025 - St. Petersburg-based Duke Energy Florida is delivering a new 304,000-pound transformer to its Largo substation Thursday amid efforts to strengthen the electric grid and improve service reliability. Residents, motorists and pedestrians should expect intermittent stops and traffic delays around 22nd Avenue North, 34th Street (US-19) North, 5th Avenue North, FL-693, 66th Street North, Ulmerton Road, Starkey Road and East Bay Drive between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday. Duke has upgraded assets at 60 substations statewide and the Largo facility is one of approximately 40 in-progress projects.
