Florida unemployment ranks continue to swell

April 30, 2020 - An estimated 432, 435 Floridians filed initial claims for unemployment benefits for the week ended April 25, according to a Thursday report from the U.S. Department of Labor. More than 1.6 million Floridians have filed first-time claims since mid-March, as restrictions were imposed to control the spread of Covid-19 coronavirus. About 30.3 million Americans have found themselves temporarily or permanently out of a job since the week of March 16, personal finance website WalletHub reported. Among the states, Florida had the biggest increase in unemployment due to coronavirus last week, and has been the 5th most impacted since the start of the crisis. See the full WalletHub report here.
