Following recent heatwave, county to open cold night shelters Saturday

March 10, 2022 - Just days after the Tampa Bay region experienced record high temperatures for the first week of March, Pinellas County is opening cold night shelters for the area’s homeless population. The Homeless Leadership Alliance announced Thursday that shelters are activating on Saturday, March 12. Shelters open when the National Weather Service expects “feel like” temperatures of 40 degrees or below between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Shelters will accept guests until they reach capacity, and all sites provide a warm and safe place to sleep. Many locations also serve a meal. For more information on locations, visit pinellashomeless.org.
