Health department sets dates, locations for south St. Pete Covid-19 test sites

April 21, 2020 - Two south St. Petersburg locations will serve as test sites for Covid-19. Both sites are in communities that have a large population of African Americans, a group that may be more prone to Covid-19 and infectious diseases in general because of underlying health conditions and other socio-economic factors. On Saturday, April 25, the Florida Department of Health-Pinellas County will offer tests at the Childs Park Recreation Center, 4301 13th Ave. S., from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. A week later, on Saturday, May 2, testing will be offered at the Frank Pierce Recreation Center at 2000 7th St. S. from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Testing is by appointment only. Call 727-568-8028 to make an appointment. Symptoms of Covid-19 include fever, cough and shortness or breath or difficulty breathing, and anyone experiencing those symptoms is asked to consider testing. In addition, adults 65 and older and those who have compromised immune systems or other underlying medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and lung disease, are more likely to experience severe illness. UPDATE: The date for the Childs Park test has been changed to Monday, 27 from 8 a.m. to noon due to expected bad weather. The public can call on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for appointments this weekend or from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday the week of April 27.
