Madeira Beach approves long-awaited dredging project

December 13, 2025 - The Madeira Beach City Commission approved a $1.5 million contract Wednesday for a long-delayed dredging project that will remove sand from John's Pass. The excess sand has caused lethal swimming conditions at an unapproved beach area along the popular John's Pass Village. Madeira Beach officials and stakeholders began highlighting the problem in 2020, and the city hopes to begin the dredging project in January.
