Mayor donates $20,000 to mitigate government shutdown impacts

October 30, 2025 - Mayor Ken Welch announced Thursday that the city would donate $20,000 to the St. Pete Free Clinic to help support residents and federal employees impacted by the federal government shutdown and the potential loss of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits Nov. 1. Welch said the money, which comes from St. Petersburg's Office of Community Impact funding, would help the nonprofit feed an addtional 3,200 clients throughout November. "I encourage any impacted resident to take advantage of these services; there is no shame in asking for help," he said. For more information, visit the website here.
