Omicron becomes the dominant Covid strain in the U.S.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that the omicron variant is now the dominant variant in the U.S., accounting for 73% of new infections. The variant was first detected in South Africa in November. Two confirmed cases were reported in Miami-Dade and Hillsborough counties. Omicron has also become the dominant strain in Miami-Dade County. The omicron variant has also recently been discovered in collections taken from wastewater sampling sites in Central Florida.
