Pinellas County adds nearly 2,500 jobless claims

July 30, 2020 - There were 2,472 first-time unemployment claims related to Covid-19 in Pinellas County in the week ended July 18, the most recent week for which data is available from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. Pinellas County has reported a total of 94,701 jobless claims since the DEO began tracking Covid-related claims in early March. That's 19.2 percent of Pinellas County's labor force, according to the DEO. Workers in the accommodations and food service industry account for 15 percent of the total claims since early March. That was the largest single industry impacted. Administrative workers accounted for 8.8 percent of the total claims and retail workers accounted for 7.6 percent of total claims.
