Pinellas County to receive $17M for greenway restoration project

February 8, 2022 - Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration will provide over $17 million in federal money for a resiliency project in Pinellas County, according to an announcement on Tuesday. The $17.1 million slated for Pinellas County represents the largest portion of the eight municipalities throughout the state to benefit from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funds. It will be used to fund the Joe's Creek Greenway Restoration Project to stabilize and widen the Joe's Creek channel in an effort to lower flood risk and increase resilience throughout the watershed. Additionally, $2 million of funds will be allocated for the City of St. Petersburg to remove 18,000 cubic yards of built-up sediment in Bartlett Lake in an effort to improve water quality and stormwater flow.
