PSTA receives additional funding for SunRunner

July 29, 2020 -

The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration announced a $21.8 million grant to PSTA for the bus rapid transit system known as the SunRunner. The federal money comes from FTA’s Capital Investment Grant program. This grant, combined with Florida Department of Transportation’s New Starts Program and Design Grant, along with contributions made by the City of St. Petersburg and PSTA, will fund the entire project at a cost of $43.93 million. Construction of the SunRunner, which will connect downtown St. Pete to the beaches, is expected to be complete in early 2022. The PSTA Board of Directors unanimously approved a contract with David Nelson Construction to build the rapid transit system.
