Public hearing dates set for St. Petersburg FY 2021 city budget

July 17, 2020 - Public hearings will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3 and Thursday, Sept. 17 for the proposed City of St. Petersburg budget for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1. Both hearings will be held at 6 p.m. at City Hall or will be held virtually online during to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a resolution the City Council approved on Thursday. In addition to setting the dates for the public hearings, the City Council approved a resolution for a proposed millage rate of 6.7550 mills, which is consistent with the current FY20 millage rate. The "rolled back" rate is 6.3489 mills, a memo to the city council said. FY21 budget highlights include: $600,000 for affordable/workforce housing and $7 million over five years for affordable housing land acquisition; $3.6 million for sustainability and resiliency investments; $850,000 for the police department's new Community Assistance Liaison program; and replacement of bunker gear (personal protective equipment) for all sworn fire rescue personnel.
