Rays and Rowdies announce week of giving
December 3, 2021 - St. Pete’s two professional sports franchises are giving back to the community in a big way next week. Beginning Monday, Dec. 6, the Tampa Bay Rays and Rowdies are kicking off a week of holiday donations and events to support local nonprofits and families in need. Monday’s event will see the Ray’s Baseball Foundation and Rowdies Soccer Fund giving away breakfast and complimentary tickets to Enchant Christmas at Tropicana Field to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg’s intensive care nurses and staff. On Tuesday, the teams’ staff will volunteer at the Metropolitan Ministries warehouse in Tampa and present a donation of $5,000. The Pinellas Park Boys & Girls Club will host Reading with the Rays on Wednesday, with the teams also providing dinner and gifts for the children. Four children and their families affiliated with Wheelchairs 4 Kids will gain early access to Enchant Christmas on Thursday and receive custom therapy trikes and a walker. To close out the week of giving, the teams will support 30 families experiencing homelessness at Campbell Park Elementary on Friday. Additionally, the franchises will deliver holiday gifts to the families’ 56 children, along with $10,000 in grocery gift cards.
