Rays named Organization of the Year after historical minor league seasons
December 10, 2021 - The Tampa Bay Rays are Baseball America’s 2021 MLB Organization of the Year. The award comes after the Rays won an American League-best and team record 100 games. The team also claimed a second-straight AL East title and made the playoff for a third straight season. The Rays did it all while navigating a string of injuries that required the use of a franchise-record 38 pitchers. However, Baseball America said it was the success of the franchise’s minor league teams that clinched the award. Tampa Bay’s five minor league affiliates won three championships and posted a combined .653 winning percentage – the highest on record. Record keeping on the benchmark began over 30 years ago.
