Rays Place Wander Franco on restricted list amid investigation
August 14, 2023 - The Tampa Bay Rays have placed star shortstop Wander Franco on the restricted list after Major League Baseball officials launched an investigation into social media posts alleging that he had an improper relationship with a minor. Franco, 22, did not join the team as it traveled to San Francisco for a three-game series against the Giants. According to a prepared statement, team officials and Franco “mutually agreed that he will go on the Restricted List and take leave from the Club for the duration of the current road trip.”
