Red tide makes a return

February 24, 2023 - Bloom concentrations of Karenia brevis, the organism that causes red tide, are back around southern Pinellas County. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Friday update shows low and medium levels are present along the St. Petersburg beaches and the mouth of Tampa Bay. It also relayed reports of fish kills and respiratory irritation around the area.
