Runway project underway at St. Pete-Clearwater airport
May 5, 2020 - A half-dozen communities near the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport may be temporarily impacted by a new runway rehabilitation project. The $24 million project includes asphalt pavement rehabilitation and reconstruction. The project is essential for safe operations at the airport, due to weathering and cracking over time, the airport said. The runway that's being worked on will be closed between June and October and a second runway will be used instead. While the project is designed to minimize impact to air carriers, passengers and the surrounding community, there will be changes in flight paths that could temporarily impact Pinellas Park, Largo, Seminole, Redington Shores, Redington Beach, and North Redington Beach, the airport said.
