St. Joseph’s Hospital expansion opens early

July 25, 2020 - BayCare Health System has expedited the opening of a new patient tower at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, giving the hospital more capacity to serve patients. The move occurred as the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 has increased, along with the need for more hospitalization for the sickest patients, Kimberly Guy, hospital president, said in a news release. The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration allowed St. Joseph's to open 30 rooms for patient care on the 5th floor of the tower. Those rooms can accommodate orthopedic and neurological patients, freeing up space in the main hospital for additional Covid-dedicated rooms. The tower's remaining 60 new rooms in the $126 million, seven-story tower are expected to be available in coming weeks.
