St. Pete drivers lose jobs as company ends ties with Amazon

February 14, 2020 - Fifty-four employees of Express Parcel Service LLC in St. Petersburg will lose their jobs in April. Express Parcel is laying off  a total of 267 people in five Florida cities, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice filed with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. The company, which  provides delivery services for Amazon Logistics, is ending its business relationship with Amazon, the Feb. 12 notice said. Express Parcel has a facility at 9900 18th St. N. in St. Petersburg, where 50 of the workers who will be laid off are couriers. Another 54 employees at Express Parcel's location at 8824 E. Adamo Dr. in Tampa will be laid off, as will 43 employees in Fort Meyers, 61 workers in Miami and 55 employees in Palmetto. A separate Amazon contractor, Railcrew Xpress, said it would close its Tampa office and lay off 72 employees after its deal with Amazon was cancelled.
