Tampa insurer strikes deal to buy Lakeland agency

December 17, 2019 - Baldwin Krystyn Sherman Partners, a subsidiary of Tampa insurance distributor BRP Group,  has agreed to buy Lanier Upshaw, a Lakeland-based independent insurance firm focused on writing healthcare, higher education, construction, property and non-profit business throughout Florida and other states. Financial terms were not disclosed. Lanier Upshaw, with about 60 employees and annual revenue of about $8 million, will become part of BRP Group's middle-market operating group, doing business as BKS-Partners, a news release said. The deal is expected to close Jan. 1. Although BRP Group completed six strategic acquisitions in the nine months ended Sept. 30, the deal with Lanier Upshaw is  the first acquisition for BRP Group (Nasdaq: BRP) since the company's initial public offering on Oct. 28.
