Tampa native elected to MLB Hall of Fame

December 5, 2022 - Fred McGriff, a former Tampa Bay Devil Ray, is the newest addition to the Baseball Hall of Fame. McGriff was born and raised and currently lives in Tampa. The "Crime Dog," as he was known, was unanimously selected Sunday by the inaugural contemporary baseball era committee. The 16-member committee considered eight candidates whose contributions to the game occurred after 1980, with McGriff the only one elected to the Hall. The five-time All-Star hit 493 homers over a 19-year career that ended with the then-Devil Rays in 2004.
