YMCA of the Suncoast lays of 1,200 workers

April 23, 2020 - The YMCA of the Suncoast has laid off 1,206 full-time and part-time workers as a result of an "unforeseeable, dramatic downturn in business caused by the coronavirus natural disaster" and the closure of wellness centers. "Our desire is that this is temporary," the YMCA said a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification sent to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity on March 27 and made public today. The layoffs include 98 people at the YMCA's association office in Clearwater and its locations throughout the area. Most of the layoffs occurred on March 18.
