Banyan Cafe
Banyan Cafe’s regular patrons got nervous when founder and 10-year owner Erica Allums sold both locations to Tampa Bay Cafeine, Inc. But the busy, but not-too-busy, coffee shop hasn’t skipped a beat under new ownership. Favorite menu items, like the egg sandwich remained unaltered, while the menu expanded and added wine and beer selections for that “executive lunch.” It has a good selection of interesting sodas, kombucha and fresh orange juice if you’re not into caffeine.
Banyan not only succeeds because of quality coffee and fresh food – the seating situation is comfortable, reliable and adaptable to solo diners and small groups, so you don’t need to worry about whether there’s going to be a seat. It shares large restrooms with the Morean Arts Center, and has a downtown rarity: free parking. The Wifi is consistent, the staff is friendly and they don’t mind if you hang out all morning. With its broad appeal, Banyan Cafe is a good place to make useful connections in city government, the arts, and business.
