In the past 100 years we have given up a vast amount of public land for the sole use of automobiles traveling at dangerous speeds to the detriment of our health, safety, and enjoyment of civic life. Fortunately, planners and civic leaders are now realizing that auto-centric design does not necessarily correlate to enhanced quality of life.
