Called “The World’s Foremost Living Artist” by the New York Times, painter, sculptor and printmaker Jasper Johns will be represented in the bay area by a new exhibit opening Thursday at the Tampa Museum of Art.

In honor of the artist’s 90th birthday, An Art of Changes: Jasper Johns Prints, 1960–2018 will be on view through Sept. 5.

Organized by Minneapolis’ Walker Art Center, An Art of Change surveys six decades of Johns’ practice in printmaking, highlighting his experiments with familiar, abstract and personal imagery. It includes some 90 works – including numerous fan favorites –  in intaglio, lithography, woodcut, linoleum cut, screenprinting and lead relief.

The Georgia-born artist is best known for his series of flags, maps, targets, letters and numbers.
