A multifamily and mixed-use development off of Gandy Boulevard is in the works.

The project, dubbed “Snug Harbor,” is a planned development in St. Petersburg consisting of residential units, a restaurant, and the construction of a marina.

The project site combines five parcels that total roughly 39 acres at the southeast corner of Gandy Boulevard and Snug Harbor Road. The parcels are currently owned by Gandy Harbor II LLC and are vacant commercial properties, according to county records.

Key International Management LLC is listed as the applicant. The Miami-based firm real estate firm has developed over 10 million square feet of residential units and has a $1.5 billion hotel portfolio. The group developed the dual-branded Residence Inn and  SpringHill Suites hotel in Clearwater Beach, which recently sold.

“This [project] is in the early planning process, our priority is to gain an understanding of the community’s needs and how we can thoughtfully contribute to the local fabric,” said Colin Gorsuch, Vice President of Development for Key International. “We look forward to working closely with the area and delivering a project that enhances the location.”

The site plans for the parcels reveal a closer look at the development. The multiple townhome buildings will have six units each along Monaco Drive and Snug Harbor Road and would be built around a pond. The plan shows at least 10 townhome buildings at the site.

There would be multiple multifamily buildings, one of which would have 120 units. In total, the site plans revealed 320 units, which does not include the townhomes. There would also be a clubhouse, leasing office and an amenity center that appears to have a dock that residents can use as a kayak launch site.

The project also calls for an 8,400-square-foot waterfront restaurant and 169 slips for the dry boat slips, as well as 101 wet slips.

The project team includes engineering consultant North Carolina-based Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc., South Florida-based MSA Architects, Tampa-based surveyor MRIC Spatial, and Fort Lauderdale-based Architectural Alliance Landscape as the landscape architect.

I grew up in Florida in the 80’s and now am back in the area due to unforeseen complications. I have to say, man oh man, has this area changed. I study birds and have so many memories as a kid of this place being filled with birds, trees, canoeing to little islands. But now, its difficult for me to find any little song birds.Likely, because they lost their habitat and if that weren’t enough, all the highways and loud music/exhaust pipes in ridiculous souped up cars, made so that they can’t hear each other. The house I’m renting backs up to this parcel and I was so happy to find one last place in this area that hasn’t been over developed. Looks like that will be coming to an end. I know that Florida isn’t big on protected land trusts bc they don’t produce any capital. And I know we all have bills to pay and futures to secure. But this sucks. Just another piece of beautiful Florida landscape about to be lost. Humans are the only species that adapts nature to fit their needs/wants. We are the only animal that destroys other animals for our own lusts. A bird sees water and land as a place to eat and sleep without changing anything. Humans see this and think- what a money maker! Let’s tear it all down so that we can look at a sea scape from our big bay windows in the comfort of air conditioning. Soon plastic and garbage line the shore and the birds all disappear. I don’t have an answer outside of maybe make this a research preserve? Invite the great minds to conduct ecological research, get grants, save the planet…

i wish there was more retail similar to westshore marina district. this could be a great walkable community along the water. excited for this project. please bring more retail for the residents around this area to travel too. this would help alleviate traffic some.

Gandy Blvd. is already slammed with traffic from the existing overdevelopment of condos and apartments in this area, and you want to add more people in an overpopulated area ? Where is the common sense and concern for our Florida wildlife and marine life ?? Is it worth killing what little we have left for a few bucks ? There won’t be any beauty left of what brought people here in the first place . SMDH. Sad 😔 and tragic . May God save our land and Gulf.

Land former Trailer Park condemned Prior to Storm Debbie. I was a child but a partner of my father building Gandy Perserve and bridge on RxR tresses. An accomplishment was said, could not be done when proposed.
Debbie . We were Lucky. She came at the lowest Tide Moon of the Year. The bay to Hillsboro Park was Dry just little water in the shipping channel. I went to see… My sailboat was moored on my Rement from my barge for Dredge creation of perserve additions to Perserve. Bardge mooring off Bird Isle.
The area had a Manatee Coution sign in front but Illegally removed when the Old Banana Boat was razed and Kayak Shore put in.
Promised to replace sign the sign was destroyed at clean up and never replaced on new pilings as was agreement. Still face Fines for removal.

There is a equalizing Pipe running from The Kayak sand beach to other side of Gandy. Assessing damage after Debby, The Shell base needs 2 and 1/2 foot higher. The water that came from Debby storm surge lifted the pavement. We had repairs skore out the pavement into brick size. And repaired the seawall along the Mbile home Park and Marine Sci for Kids building. My bait sand bar still there.

Sad to see another large development soon to be at risk of Sea Level Rise and storm water flooding. Also will add to the already dense population of the county which puts all of us at risk for hurricane and other disaster evacuation. Who authorizes these developments and why?
