TAMPA, Fla. – Galileo Group, Inc., an advanced technology and innovation company, was recently awarded resident status among The Tampa Bay Technology Incubator (TBTI) program at USF CONNECT – USF Research & Innovation. Galileo’s latest technology, SWARM™, a monitor-search-and-rescue app, has been the focal point in the program for Galileo, undergoing live field tests and potentially changing the safety climate for the better among campuses nationwide, starting with Tampa Bay.

“Every technology company is vetted before being invited into our incubator program. Because our aim is to grow successful companies that spur economic development in our community, it is important that we select the most promising innovations,” said USF CONNECT program director, Shannon Pastizzo.

Among other patented technologies in biomedical informatics, Galileo’s SWARM™ is targeted to consumers with personal protection at the pinnacle. SWARM™ is an iPhone app that monitors, tracks, and aids in emergency responses. It collects real-time onsite information and is specially designed to aggregate large quantities of critical information when multiple users activate the app at once. Users use SWARM™ to collect video, photos, audio, geographic data, and biometric data.

“We’re honored to be invited into the incubator program at USF CONNECT. TBTI is an ideal environment of support and growth for Galileo and our technologies,” said Galileo Group, Inc. CEO, Michael Barnes.

SWARM™ was engineered to aid in immediate intelligence and rescue during emergency situations such as a crowded active shooter event or a personal attack in an individual setting. Users have the option to activate the app in the background if going for a run alone, for instance. The app tracks the user’s exact location and signs of life, alerting authorities if something is amiss. When multiple users activate SWARM™ simultaneously during an incident, the data not only triangulates a perpetrator’s route of where they may be headed but collects and sends footage and audio evidence of the entire situation in real-time allowing for first responders to make quick decisions that could mitigate or prevent casualties.

“When it comes to defense and safety, SWARM™ is a game changer for students and faculty on any campus, anywhere in our country,” said Barnes.

Users are testing SWARM™ throughout the Tampa Bay area while Galileo Group continues development to enhance user interface and bandwidth data collection capabilities. Data collection is secured in offshore databases where limited access is granted, and user privacy controls are strictly enacted. Galileo Group is open to angel investors for SWARM™ or community funding as development continues.
