Here’s some of the latest restaurant and foodie news for St. Petersburg:

This weekend, the Yard Milkshake Bar is celebrating the grand opening of its first St. Petersburg shop, at 111 2nd Ave. NE, Suite 103. 

Founded by husband-and-wife team Logan and Chelsea Green, who were featured on ABC’s Shark Tank in 2019, The Yard – known for its over-the-top massive shakes – made an entrance to the Tampa market last year.

The company has milkshake bars in Jacksonville, Panama City Beach, Destin and other locations outside of the state. 

The Yard has a specialty drink themed after each of its shop locations. The exclusive St. Pete shake, called Hurricane Pete, features coconut ice cream mixed with pineapple juice with blue marshmallow drizzle in a vanilla iced jar with cotton candy clouds. It is then topped with whipped cream, a hurricane cupcake and a lighting rock candy stick, according to the company’s St. Pete menu

 

 

DeCosmo Italian Market opens

DeCosmo Italian Market, an Italian-American family-owned grocery store and deli, has recently opened in Pinellas Park. 

The market at 6832 49th St. N. offers coffee, sandwiches, pastries and imported Italian goods.

“We bring our own familial authenticity to our recipes, and have a combined experience in food service among the DeCosmo family for over a decade, between cheese mongering, catering, deli and sandwich shop expertise,” brothers Paul, Vincent and Steven DeCosmo said on the market’s website

The market is open Tuesday through Sunday. 

 

Good Intentions debuts 

The minds behind the local vegan hot spots Golden Dinosaurs, Black Radish and Nah Dogs have officially opened the long-anticipated vegan restaurant concept Good Intentions.

The restaurateurs have flipped the 3,600-square-foot steel Quonset hut at 1900 1st Ave. S. into a full-scale vegan restaurant with a wraparound cocktail bar. 

Audrey Dingeman, who runs Golden Dinosaurs in Gulfport with her husband Brian, previously spoke with the St. Pete Catalyst about the first-of-its-kind concept when the team started renovating the building. 

The restaurant, named after a song by punk rock band Gorilla Biscuits, started serving customers last month. 

 

Potbelly to open more stores in Tampa Bay

The popular fast-causal sandwich chain Potbelly Sandwich Shop has inked an agreement with its existing franchisee STA Management to open 14 new shops in the Tampa area. 

The additional shops will open within the next five years, according to a press release. The chain has two local shops with one on Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa and another on Falkenburg Road.

The first Potbelly restaurant opened in Chicago in 1977 and has expanded to 400 company-owned shops and 40 franchised locations in the U.S.

The chain is known for its popular sandwich The Wreck, made with turkey breast, hickory smoked ham, Angus roast beef, salami and Swiss cheese. 

 

LGBTQ-owned restaurant Zoie’s opens this month

Zoie’s, a new LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer)-owned restaurant, is opening this month after renovating space at 2245 Central Ave. for nearly a year. 

The 3,200-square-foot space was formerly the AC and Heating shop.

The restaurant is described as a “place for everyone” and the menu will feature “southern comfort foods with a modern twist” and signature cocktails. 

The menu on Zoie’s website lists dishes such as crawfish eggrolls, catfish hushpuppies, fried green tomatoes and Nashville hot chicken.
