Opening Friday at Florida CraftArt, Animal Attraction presents works by contemporary artists who use animal themes to probe complex ideas.
Featuring in ceramics, fiber, metal, mixed media, wood, glass and jewelry, Animal Attraction -running through May 12 at 501 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg – is curated by Georgia ceramicists Taylor Robenalt and Tiffany Leach.
Economic prosperity forum
Randy Cohen, VP of Research at Americans for the Arts, will discuss the organization’s recent Arts & Economic Prosperity Survey (AEP6) at a community forum event Thursday (9 a.m.-noon) at the EpiCenter at St. Petersburg College, 3805 58th Street N., Clearwater. At Creative Pinellas

Now on view at The Gallery at Creative Pinellas is Strength of Character, consisting of large-scale paintings by Edgar Sanchez Cumbas, sculptural wood pieces by Kathleen & David Bly (Jib Projects) and site-specific installation and assembled objects by Kendra Frorup. The exhibit runs through April 28.
Meanwhile, Mikhail Mansion’s Nature Pix, with more than 50 new, never-before-seen works by Fairgrounds’ resident technological genius. Mansion, Creative Pinellas’s 2023 Artist Laureate, combines code, custom-designed electronics and illustration to create art that amplifies nature’s voice. The gallery, “will showcase a captivating fusion of the natural world and a grid-like motif, representing the intersection of code and computation, while emphasizing the inherent beauty of local nature.”
Mansion’s Artist Talk is on the schedule for April 11; “My aspiration is for show attendees to depart feeling not only inspired, but also more deeply attuned to their surroundings in a truly unique and extraordinary manner,” he said in a prepared statement.
