The Sunshine Center is a senior citizens center for Saint Petersburg. It is located at 330 Fifth Street North.
Elders at the Sunshine Center will provide safety eyeglasses and instructions for watching the eclipse. The eclipse will begin at 1:43 pm on April 8th. Information about solar power, health and safety during the hot weather, and community vegetable gardening during the the four seasons will be provided. Artists will make cyanotypes (solar prints) during the eclipse.
Senior citizen environmentalists are called "gray greens." Because of its large population of seniors, Saint Petersburg has gained a national reputation for its involvement with "gray greens."
