The Practice of Listening: A Community-Building Effort
July 19, 2024 — 3:00pm-6:00pm
Note: This is a rescheduled date.
Hosted at the Center
The purpose of this community experience is to explore Nixon & Co.’s Listening Framework and the importance of placing the practice of Community Listening and Engagement (CLE) at the center of St. Pete’s community-building efforts, including development and re-development efforts such as the St. Pete Distillery Genesis Project. Understanding that community-building reaches far beyond the “bricks and sticks” of development, the group’s Listening efforts have also made a national impact in serving informal learning institutions as they grapple with their social and racial inequities. During this dialogic exchange, Nixon & Co. will discuss some identified themes throughout the various Listening data they’ve collected that punctuate a need for mental and social/emotional support, concerning generational trauma within communities and a lack of economic upward mobility for many of its partners’ neighbors.
