On today’s edition of the Arts Alive! podcast, St. Petersburg native William Leavengood re-traces the road that took him to New York, and California, and back to St. Pete, where his dramas, comedies and musicals are getting produced in record numbers.

Ghost Stories From Yellowstone is in its first weekend at the Off-Center, St. Pete’s black box theater and fresh-work incubator. Leavengood discusses this dramatic work, a world premiere, about a dysfunctional family attempting one last show of unity and affection on a deep woods camping trip. Then there are the other locally-produced shows he’s made his name on: Webb’s City: The Musical, The Sister-Mothers of Gulfport and The Azure Sky in Oz.

To date, he has written more than 50 plays.

Coming in January: A production of Leavengood’s long-gestating musical about Tampa’s Number One pirate, Jose Gaspar.
