‘A whirlwind of emotions’: AquaX racer competes, wins, in the wake of tragedy

Erminio Iantosca was leading the field of AquaX jet ski racers heading into the season’s final event in St. Petersburg; however, just making it to the race was in doubt after tragedy struck his family early in the morning on Sept. 3.

Iantosca planned to leave his house in Naples at 8 a.m. for the 2021 P1 St. Pete Powerboat Grand Prix. A season championship was on the line, and it would be decided in a place Iantosca told the Catalyst he “loves” – whether racing or just to visit. Then, at 3:30 a.m., he was awakened by a phone call letting him know that his mother had unexpectedly passed away. Josephine Iantosca was 66 years old.
