Chick-fil-A sought more room. St. Pete leaders said no

A plan to expand a Chick-fil-A on 4th Street North was rejected by a St. Petersburg advisory board Tuesday after commissioners raised concerns about seven apartments and a row of small businesses that would be demolished to make way for a larger restaurant.

The Community Planning and Preservation Commission voted 4-3 against the proposal at 4201 4th Street N. Chick-fil-A sought city approval to redevelop its existing restaurant and expand onto neighboring property.

More than 86,000 Pinellas County voters have already cast ballots in the Aug. 18 primary election, with Republicans holding a substantial advantage among voters showing up in person even as Democrats maintain a narrow edge in overall ballots cast.

As of about 11 a.m. Thursday, 86,454 ballots had been cast, representing 14.28% of the county’s 605,325 active eligible voters.
