Inaugural lessons help guide school superintendent

Despite today’s educators facing myriad challenges, Pinellas County Schools (PCS) Superintendent Kevin Hendrick eagerly anticipates providing excitement and stability for local youth in his second year at the helm.

About 100,000 kids will return to local schools Aug. 10. Hendrick continues emphasizing the importance of creating positive experiences to motivate students and teachers.

Curtis Hixon Hall Part 2: The concerts (1965-87)

Here is a rundown of every known pop, rock, country, jazz and comedy concert held in the big room at Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Hall between the opening in 1965 and 1987, shortly before the building was permanently closed.

The list was compiled by cross-referencing ads, event listings, stories and reviews in the Tampa Times, Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Times, plus available online databases (several of which were contradictory). The City of Tampa, which owned the building, did not retain a record of all Curtis Hixon events; every attempt was made to make this list as accurate as possible.
