Behind the Scenes: Building Literary Community in St. Petersburg, USF Florida Studies Program Frank E. Duckwall Lecture
Behind the Scenes: Building Literary Community in St. Petersburg is a panel conversation with individuals who help make possible our vibrant literary landscape. St. Petersburg is alive with writing-related events, from open mics to readings and book signings, to literary festivals and writers’ conferences. But how often do we hear from the people “behind the scenes” that make these events possible? Panelists have built careers in the literary arts, doing the daily work of planning, networking, publicizing, fundraising, and other forms of organizing. “Behind the Scenes” offers an opportunity to see what that work looks like and to celebrate the often-unsung figures who make it happen. The conversation will include a Q& A and be followed by a brief, informal reception.
Panelists:
Sheree Greer, founding director, Kitchen Table Literary Arts
Maureen McDole, founder, Keep St. Pete Lit
Gloria Muñoz, St. Petersburg Poet Laureate
Alsace Walentine, owner, Tombolo Books
Moderated by the 2024-2026 Duckwall Professor Julie Buckner Armstrong
Organized by USF Florida Studies Program at USF St. Petersburg
