Join us on Friday, June 3rd at Brenda McMahon Gallery as Gulfport kicks-off a month long celebration of diversity and creativity in honor of Pride Month, aimed at uplifting and honoring LGBTQ voices. The occasion will serve as the debut of prominent Latin American/Caribbean artist John Gascot as the Gallery's Artist of the Month for June and takes place from 5-9pm during Gulfport's First Friday Art Walk.
Gascot's work aims to be accessible and promote diversity throughout the region, as can be seen on his St. Pete Pride mural depicting LGBTQ icons and his work on St. Pete's Black Lives Matter mural. Gascot strives to create art that promotes diversity while simultaneously celebrating and challenging social and gender roles dictated by various cultures. In addition to creating groundbreaking art, Gascot founded local non-profit Diversity Arts, which aims to support underserved youth and communities by providing safe environments, guidance and materials for creative self-discovery, expression and sociocultural interaction.
Visitors to the event will be treated to the smooth sounds and cool jazz of trumpet player and sound healer Lindy Romez, who will also perform the following day at Gulfport's Pride Celebration, which takes place from 10am-5pm on scenic Beach Boulevard. The event is traditionally one of the largest celebrations of the year in the diverse, arts-loving community in Gulfport.
