Connect with us

This 3-hour workshop will begin with a 30-minute lecture/demonstration from the live model with a focus on foundational techniques and methods. We’ll explore how to see the sculptural structure of the head: its angles, planes, and proportions. You’ll learn to trust your eye, feel the form with your hand, and carve into space with charcoal. All skill levels are welcome. We’ll draw from the live model, play music, and end with a round-table conversation about what we learned, what we found challenging, and what surprised us!

Materials List

If you have used or imperfect supplies hanging around, feel free to bring those instead!
Anything can be used to create. Use the list below as a guide.
Suggested materials to bring: – – – – –

-Charcoal sticks or charcoal pencils (softer vine charcoals are my preferred)
-18”x24” pad of newsprint paper
-Drawing board (or similar stiff, flat surface to put your paper against)
-Kneaded eraser
-Bottle of water

Where to get

Materials can be purchased at Blick in Tampa, Michael’s, Bottom of the Bin in Seminole (used
materials, super affordable, worth a look!) or online, though I highly encourage supporting our
local businesses. You can even ask a creative friend or your network if they would be willing to
sell to you or let you borrow materials!
