HOWL explores the life and works of 20th-century American poet, Allen Ginsberg. The film reconstructs the early life of Ginsberg during the 1940s and 1950s. It also re-enacts Ginsberg's debut performance of "Howl" at the Six Gallery Reading on October 7, 1955. The reading was the first important public manifestation of the Beat Generation and helped to herald the West Coast literary revolution that became known as the San Francisco Renaissance.
Our charity is hosting two screenings at the fantastic indie theater Green Light Cinema on Sunday, January 15th. Showtimes are 3:00 & 6:00 pm featuring the 2010 film HOWL, starring James Franco as Allen Ginsberg and Jon Hamm as Jake Ehrlich, Ginsberg's defense attorney. Come meet our board members, stop by the merch booth in the lobby and get interactive with Q & A's after each screening. This event helps support the Friends of Jack Kerouac, a local 501(c)3 organization founded in 2013, and all of our upcoming events.
